Introduction to Development
How it all started
My first website back in 2010-ish was built in VB.Net and the whole thing was made out of HTML tables. I worked on it with my dad and I loved it! It was fun, confusing and infuriating at points when you were 50 tables deep and you'd lost a closing tag somewhere. In hindsight, tables probably weren't the way forward, but it's what he knew and it's where I started.
At the same time, I was working in my third systems administrator position, looking after 80 – 100 users with various Linux and Windows servers. After a good few years, I'd had enough. There's only so many times you can replace a printer, fix an issue with an accounting system or explain to someone that your password needs to be more than "password".
Eventually, it became obvious that no one cares when things work — but when they don't, you're public enemy number one. And there's only so long you can put up with that for.
